Choppy waters and storms are so exciting. Lighthouses, meanwhile, are a captivating show of strength and certainty amid chaos.

This one painting is a compilation of images that I’ve seen over the years and the feelings they consistently evoke.

I built up color and depth using a mix of glazes. The tips of some white caps were glazed and removed, then glazed again to create luminosity. I also used a knife to add texture to the cliff, as well as in the large wave.

The combination of contrasting color and the techniques ultimate create a very moody and energetic piece.
