I’ve always loved the simplicity and shadows of Monet’s Poplar series. I also love dramatic color and contrasts.

This painting allowed me to indulge in it all.

The brushwork creates a gritty interesting texture throughout.The colours are intense. What’s more it has a strong focal point.

I didn’t want it to be a typical landscape so I gave it a semi-abstract, almost geometric style.
